The problem is much deeper and unfortunately does not provide any short and simple solution. The damages, though not wrong to call them real crimes which the West has produced over the past two decades, are terrible. From the first Gulf War onwards the perception of ourselves that we have been projecting to the southern hemisphere countries has been distorted. Until then, rightly or wrongly, the West was the place of rights, freedom and democracy. Images that often did not correspond to reality, but it was a bluff that held. Then we became the world of arrogance, deceit, abuse and one-way rights. Wars waged in the name of "democracy" which killed unarmed and innocent populations and countries - like Palestine - abandoned to the arrogance of criminal force states like Israel, a meticulous dismantling of Middle East national States theorized at a table by the eggheads of US new cons appeared. This crushing operation of national states, that began with Iraq, continued with Libya, Syria, Yemen, aiming to involve Egypt in a near future, has definitely broken all the old equilibrium forcing peoples of these areas to a biblical migration.

These women and men in their odyssey cross a neo-colonial West ready to sell arms useful to increase its GDP with cheap labor (even manipulating and burying the remaining labor rights and welfare state) and rejecting with walls, barbed wire, and violence the millions of desperate people fleeing from conflicts created by our policies. An objective "enemy" and detestable West.

This is one of the pools in which the "Isis brand" fishes with both hands: a terror created by the European chancelleries with money of petro-monarchies. A script experienced in the past, first in Afghanistan and then in the Balkans. But it would be a mistake to believe that the terrorism is regenerated only in this ‘sea’. There is a sea, perhaps greater and certainly more deeply internal to our countries -that of so many young people, a whole generation, who are struggling to figure out not only the future but also the present, living a daily life made of marginalization and ghettos in the outskirts of our cities. I think about those French people of North African origin who in the past decades have believed in a possible integration and that today feel thrown back violently into a situation of cultural and material instability. A colonial legacy that even the civil France never wanted to seriously address. In this context, religion becomes a refuge and a place of possible redemption. A distorted religiosity, which easily can be manipulated and exploited by easy promises and above all by the money of the Gulf monarchies. It is not by criminalizing religious practices, whether they are Islamic or of any other creed, that this perverse play of interests can be broken, but rediscovering the values ​​of a secularism understood as the acceptance of the other. This is the challenge before us.

If we do not dry up these harmful “pools or seas”, replacing them with serious and responsible policies and above all calling into question the colonial logics that are at the base of today's conflicts, nothing will avail the despair of so many sincere democrats or the hypocritical tears of the powerful people, the same who sell weapons and finance the terrorism friends’ countries.
